KVOS WANTS YOU TO GET IN THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT!

KVOS and Joey Restaurants want you to get in the Olympic spirit! Celebrate with all the daily events that are happening throughout our communities.

17 days and nights of free, exhilarating, amazing and once in a lifetime events. Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and West Vancouver will be the destinations for your memorable experience of the games.

From February 12th to February 28th.

Vancouver

In Vancouver, there are two exciting and distinct outdoor celebration sites: LiveCity Yaletown and LiveCity Downtown.

LiveCity Yaletown is presenting the best in local, Canadian and international entertainment with performers such as Jully Black,Keshia Chante, Marianas Trench, Deadmau5, Alexisonfire, In Flight Safety, Colin James and the Dal Richards Band. You can also take a tour of Vancouver House, showcasing the latest in environmentally friendly technology and the city’s green initiative. In the afternoon, watch the Games on large television screens and cheer on Team Canada. Starting at 8pm every night, check out free concerts and acts for the whole family at the closing show. There will also be educational programs available for students from grades six to twelve, which will feature renowned public speakers and athletes. LiveCity Downtown is showcasing different Olympic events on a large screen, making it possible to watch the Games with your friends and family without buying a ticket. You can also watch Canadian short films about sport, art and life while enjoying delicious food.

Richmond

The O Zone will host an array of events including headline performances such as Our Lady Peace, Hawksley Workman, Tokyo Police, Bedouin Soundclash, Wintersleep, The Stills, Mud Dog, Hey Ocean, Dal Richards and the world-renowned Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. Their main stage will also feature many cultural acts, including some of the most well-known performers from Africa, a South Asian celebration consisting of a Bhangara Bash, a Pan-Northern Pageant and a Chinese New Year extravaganza.

Visit the remarkable Ice Gate, a massive piece of art made of ice, created by B.C.’s Gordon Halloran. The remarkable canvas will change over time as it continuously melts and freezes, symbolizing a glacial wall before it enters the ocean. See it before it melts!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an Olympic skier, bobsledder or hockey player? Share the excitement of the Games by getting your free athlete accreditation pass and checking out the interactive and virtual experience of the Games Dome. There are many prizes that can be won!  

The vibrant Holland Heineken House will party in orange! Also known as the National House of the Netherlands, the hip venue is a place where athletes, performers and fans can celebrate the Games together. Access is free but there are restrictions for minors.

West Vancouver

In West Vancouver check out the Canadian Winter Sports Showcase, featuring a group of performers dancing to a dynamic soundtrack with special lighting effects and a large video screen.

The Canadian Space Agency presents the Sports in Space Exhibit. Take a tour of an International Space Station model and see what it is like to live and even play sports in space.  

Celebrate into the Evening with live performances from all different genres, including pop, rock, classical, traditional and contemporary. These diverse artists do have something in common: they are all talented and they are all Canadian.

The Northern Showcase Performances in Spirit Square feature dances and songs by performers from Nunavut, Yukon and the Northwest Territories. Listen to stories, meet athletes of the Dene and Inuit Games and observe the traditional Inuit blanket toss.

Surrey

Surrey will play host to some spectacular entertainment such as the RCMP musical ride as well as performances by Blue Rodeo, the Sam Roberts band, Randy Bachman, 54-40, Tainted Lovers, The Arkells and more.

Experience what it is like to be a bobsled, luge or skeleton athlete and race down a track at unbelievable speed by going tobogganing at the sliding zone, featuring three exciting hills ranging in size. You can also tryout one of Canada’s oldest sports at the curling zone. Then meet celebrities and dance to great music by a live DJ at the skating rink. Don’t forget to check out the Sustainability Zone, where you can learn about waste reduction and conserving energy.

Bring your family and friends to different venues around Surrey, featuring performances, visual and digital arts in the community. Visit Kwantlen University and see how clothes are designed by local artists, or fly an airship with your friends at the Simon Fraser University School of Interactive Arts and Technology WeBlimp.

On the weekends, check out the Agility Dogs, a canine show featuring dogs performing exciting tricks and running through a challenging course, with trainers ranging from ages 7 to 70. Cheer on the dogs and show your support for the trainers.
