Cleveland Indians starter Mitch Talbot has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain, an injury that forced him to leave Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Talbot exited in the third inning of Cleveland's 11-4 loss, having allowed a run in two innings. He is 8-9 with a 4.09 earned run average in 20 starts this season.

Also on Friday, the Indians optioned pitcher Jess Todd to Triple-A Columbus, while recalling right-handed pitchers Justin Germano and Jensen Lewis from Columbus to add bullpen depth.

Germano has split the season between Double-A Akron and Columbus, and last appeared in the majors in 2008. Lewis has appeared in 22 games for the Indians this season, posting a 2-2 record and 4.18 ERA in 23 2/3 innings.

Todd allowed five runs in six innings over five appearances this month for Cleveland.
